Managing Stage BoundariesOne of the key principles of Prince2 is that projects should be broken down into brain-sized chunks called 'stages'. However these stages are defined, the Managing Stage Boundaries process is the means by which the transition is made from one stage to the next, giving the organisation an opportunity to assess the continuing viability of the project against its business case. During this process, information supporting the proposition that the current stage is completing is collated, the detailed plan for the next planned stage is produced and the risks and business case are reassessed. Additionally, the high level project plan will be updated. This information will then be passed to the Project Board for approval of the next stage. The process will be entered one of two ways - either because the current stage is drawing to a close on successful completion, or because the Project Board has requested that an exception plan be produced, thus closing the current stage prematurely. |
