Initiating a ProjectFollowing Starting up A Project, the Project Board will have approved the Project Brief and other products, and will authorise the initiation stage of the project according to the Draft Initiation Stage Plan. Now the detailed planning of the project can start. The first step will be the planning of the quality systems which will be used on the project, aligned with both the customer's quality expectations and any internal or external quality standards to which the organisation adheres. This is necessary so that a project plan can be produced - clearly a plan for a quick-and-dirty project is a different proposition to one for a mission-critical core system development. The outline business case must also be developed to the point where it will support a decision to proceed further with the project, and the risk situation must be comprehensively understood. Initiation of a project will also include administrative planning of how the project will be controlled and setting up of project filing systems. All of these plans and information is then collated into a Project Initiation Document for approval by the Project Board. |
